For those of you flying to Cuba from Miami, but arrive first in south Florida at Ft. Lauderdale, there are several ways to get from one airport to another. You can take a taxi–at a cost of about $60 or more. There are also less-expensive shuttle services. However, now that the brand new Miami Airport Station is open, I suggest the Tri-Rail—a commuter train that runs about every 30-45 minutes. The trip takes about 45 minutes. I checked the one-way fare, and couldn’t believe it—$3.75 one way during the week, and $5 one way on weekends. The southern end-of-the-line is at a brand new, futuristic train station and multi-transportation hub. It is also only about a half mile from the Element Hotel that many of us stay at the night before our Miami>Havana flight. (The hotel’s free shuttle will pick you up at the train station as well as at Miami International Airport.) The new station is also about a quarter mile from the Sheraton Miami Airport
Why Ft. Lauderdale Airport? Sometimes flights into Ft. Lauderdale can be less expensive, and/or there may be a more favorable schedule. Southwest flies into Ft. Lauderdale, not Miami. Virgin America flies into Ft. Lauderdale.
