This has really been a mellow Mothers’ Day, which is also celebrated in Cuba. After breakfast we met our guide and driver with his minibus and went on a tour of Havana. We went to the Museum of the Revolution and the Fine Arts Museum, which were very interesting and informative. After a tasty lunch featuring roasted chicken and Cuban beer, we drove under the tunnel connecting Havana with the eastern portion and visited the massive fortress across the harbor. Its cannons protected the harbor entrance in the 1600’s and 1700’s. On return, we visited Revolutionary Square, where a half million people heard the Pope give mass less than 2 months ago.
I’m now back at our hotel, getting ready for a swim, a nap, and a late dinner at one of Havana’s paladares—private, in-home restaurants. So far our tour has been just about perfect with only a few minor glitches.
Best wishes to all you mothers out there!
Really looking forward to our trip there!
